The Shenandoah County Chapter of the American Red Cross was originally chartered on February 24, 1917 and has operated for the benefit of the citizens of Shenandoah County, Virginia ever since that time. Currently, the Chapter operates an outstanding blood donation/bloodmobile program; an Armed Forces Emergency Services program; a Community Safety program aimed at youth; a Disaster Services program designed to respond in the event of a disaster in the county; and an International Services program. Our extensive Health & Safety program includes CPR/AED and First Aid for individuals and the workplace; pet first aid; babysitting; Water Safety training. The Chapter is always looking for ways to better serve the community and its citizens. Your participation is earnestly solicited . . . . . VOLUNTEER TODAY AND HELP SERVE YOUR COMMUNITY Volunteers Needed for:Disaster Action Team Member (DAT) Join the American Red Cross providing critical relief services when disaster strikes right here in your community or around the nation. The Red Cross provides on-scene essential aid and comfort to victims of residential fires and responds to local and national disasters. Team members sign up and train for any of several responsibilities: sheltering, feeding, supply distribution, client casework and other vital tasks. We will teach you the important skills necessary to get your family prepared for disaster and for you to respond to small and large disaster events. Preparedness & Response Instructor Serve your community by teaching others to save a life. The American Red Cross is seeking volunteer instructors for first aid; infant, child, and adult CPR/AED; baby-sitting and other lifesaving courses. Instructors are needed throughout the year for classes that will be offered days, evenings, and weekends. Free training will be provided to volunteers with a commitment to teach. No prior experience necessary. Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) Assists military families and personnel during an emergency situation. Office or Clerical Support Anytime: Monday - Friday 9am – 4pm Blood Services Host a blood drive; promote/advertise the drive; provide assistance during the drive. If you would like to donate blood, you must be 17 years of age, at least 110 pounds, and be in reasonably good health. A person can give every 56 days.
